ENWL008 - Architecture of Tools for Load Scenarios (ATLAS)

Developing realistic future demand and generation scenarios – and understanding the associated uncertainties – is key to efficiently planning our distribution network. Credible scenarios help us judge how and when it is efficient to deploy traditional smart solutions to delivering network capacity.

Our ATLAS project – ‘Architecture of Tools for Load Scenarios’ – addressed this area. It ran from November 2015 to December 2017, and developed methodologies, prototype tools and specifications to develop the types of detailed loading scenarios and comparisons to capacity which distribution network operators will need to meet future customer needs.

ATLAS builds on the work from another project ‘Demand Scenarios with Electric Heat and Commercial Capacity Options’, which was completed in early 2017. Both projects were funded under the Network Innovation Allowance.

Timescales: November 2015 – July 2018.
