Appliances and equipment

Appliances and equipment in the workplace can use huge amounts of energy.

By managing your appliances carefully you could significantly reduce the amount of energy they consume, lower your energy bills and reduce your carbon emissions.

  • When buying new equipment for the workplace, only buy appliances with a high energy efficiency rating.
  • Keep your equipment well maintained to prolong its life.
  • Turn appliances off if they're not in use. This will keep them cooler and therefore reduce the need for ventilation and cooling.
  • Enable any energy-saving features such as standby mode.
  • Encourage/educate employees to take responsibility for equipment under their control – ie turn it off.
