Accessibility statement

We want our website to be accessible to everyone. That’s why we work towards meeting set accessibility guidelines.

Making our website accessible

We have worked with the Royal National Institute of Blind People to help develop our website and check it against the international standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG), published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Exceptions

Power cut map

The power cut map is component built using third party mapping software provided by Google. Google state that Maps works with major screen readers such ChromeVox, VoiceOver, JAWS and NVDA, whilst also being keyboard accessible. However, there may be some screen readers that are not supported. Please see the Google support page for more information on Google Maps accessibility. Our site provides alternative map content as a list and skip links to bypass the map via keyboard.

ReCAPTCHA

ReCAPTCHA is a third party component provided by Google that is required for web form security and is used across all forms on the site. Google state that ReCAPTCHA works with major screen readers such as ChromeVox, JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver. However, there may be some screen readers that are not supported. Please see the Google support page for more information on ReCAPTCHA accessibility.

W3C mark-up validation compliance

Electricity North West works towards meeting the W3C guidelines to have compliant use of mark-up. An exception required on the site is for use of the focusable attribute on SVG images, this is required to prevent a known issue with Internet Explorer 11 allowing SVG images to attain a focusable state.
