23,000 back on power as final 300 weather-related power cuts restored in North West (20:45 update)

Electricity North West engineers have restored power to the final 300 properties whose supplies were affected by Storm Emma, taking the total number of homes restored to 23,000 since Thursday evening.

Working with the emergency services and local authorities engineers have been able to access all remaining faults on the network today to carry out repairs to restore power.

Paul Bircham, strategy director and incident manager, for Electricity North West said: “I’m incredibly proud of our engineers who have battled the extreme cold, deep snow and windy weather over the past couple of days.

“We’ve made great progress today, particularly helped by both councils and individuals including farmers and local residents who have helped us gain access to the more difficult locations.

“We have a number of generators on site at various locations at the moment and we will be removing these over the course of this evening and tomorrow as soon as we can switch customers back to the main network.”

If anyone sees any damaged overhead lines, or debris such as tree branches on lines, stay away and call the national power cut emergency number, 105.

Electricity North West has now provided 300 hot meals from food vans in affected areas while engineers restored supplies.

• 8,500 properties in Cumbria restored
• 6,700 properties in Lancashire restored
• 7,800 properties in the Peak District restored

Over the coming days and weeks Electricity North West will proactively notify customers who have been without electricity for more than 12 hours offering goodwill payments for the inconvenience of being without power.
